Fun Territory Defense of the Easy-Going Lord: Chapter-288

 "Good morning."

"Good morning. Where will you be going for today?"

"Shall I working the city walls today?"

"Understood."

After such a simple exchange, I head to my morning duties. By the way, the exchange earlier was with Zetros. It’s a sort of daily check-in.

"Oh, your clothes have wrinkles..."

"Oh, I didn’t notice. Thanks, Till."

"Yes!"

Maybe it’s because the attendants at Cayyenne Castle are so capable, but Till has been more attentive than usual, spinning around me like a satellite. Arte is always either right beside me or behind me, so I often laugh at Till's excessive care. Kamshin, finally beginning to let his guard down, is following behind with a slightly more relaxed air, though still on high alert.

Meanwhile, Dee, saying this was also training, has been bringing members of the Ceat Village Knights to cut down and bring in wood every day. By now, hearing Dee’s laughter twice in the morning and three times in the afternoon has become routine. Even the town’s children, when they see Dee running with logs, chase after him.

Incidentally, at Panamera’s request, within a week we had renovated the city gates and surrounding walls, as well as the major roads running through the center and the streets just inside the walls. Buildings facing the main road had to be demolished to widen the street, and those buildings have already been rebuilt. As a result, anyone coming to the fortress city of Cayyenne will be stunned by the changes.

From the highway, the city gates look newly built and lavish, and even the color of the walls is different. Upon passing through the city gates, the wide, newly paved streets and square stretch out in front of you, and further ahead, the newly constructed three-story buildings stand, with Cayyenne Castle towering over it all, now completely different from before.

We made sure to unify the gate, buildings, and castle in the Baroque style, so the appearance should be quite pleasing.

Now, I’m currently in the process of slowly repairing the walls. Given how vast the area is, just moving around is a task. Since the materials needed to renovate the sewers are still lacking, I’m having the necessary arrangements made while I focus on the wall repairs.

“The wall repairs are still only about a third done, so I’ll probably need at least another month to finish.”

I murmur this to myself as I gaze out over the scene from the top of the wall. The wind is strong up here, but it feels good. The soft scent of flowers seems to soothe my fatigue.

"Van-sama, you must be tired. Please, have a seat."

"Thanks, Till."

As I’m gazing outside, Till sets up a folding chair for me. It’s a folding chair I had made after I started going on long trips. It's incredibly light yet sturdy, a masterpiece that the Bell-Rango Trading Company would practically drool over.

Sitting down and looking down at the town from above, I notice a stark contrast between the new and old parts of the city. The new parts are luxurious and beautiful, a sight I’m personally very satisfied with. On the other hand, the old part of the town, while the roofs and walls are uniform in a brownish hue, still shows signs of age, with the colors uneven and the oldness standing out.

However, there’s something about the old town that gives off a sense of life.

“…Hmm, maybe I should reconsider the renovation plan.”

I mutter to myself, and Arte tilts her head.

“A revision of the plan?”

“Yeah. If I go through with the current plan, it might ruin the scenery of this town, which has been here for decades. Once today’s wall repairs are done, I’ll consult Panamera.”

There might be a need for a lot of rethinking. While envisioning the new plan in my head, I hurriedly proceed with the wall repairs.
